Sustained Investigation #3

When creating my third piece I wanted to keep branching off of outer spaces and how to incorporate important Texas landmarks. To begin my piece I placed a photo of rocks and used a layer mask and different soft brushes to clean of the image. Then I added a space background and used my adjustment tools to work with different affects to make the background pop more and add more visual variety. After, I placed a photo of the moon and created a layer mask to clean up around that image I then dropped an outer glow of the moon to add a horizon look.
What made me decide to add the Whataburger restaurant was I wanted to keep the Texan theme, and I wanted to add a landmark from Texas, so I thought what a better way than to add the #1 Texas drive-thru into my piece. I first placed the image then created a layer mask around it to make the lighting match the rest of the piece; I used my adjustments to take down the brightness and increase the contrast. I then created another layer mask behind the image to create a shadow to make a light source. After I decided to make the sky orange because I wanted to keep going off the Whataburger theme for this piece, I added the orange color to the sky. I then blurred the background so that it would match the blur of the moon. In the second picture, I then added the same horse from my last piece because I thought it would be neat to keep incorporating the horse to go off the Texas theme. After I created a layer mask, I then made another layer and added shadows on the horse's front end to create a light source. The hardest part when creating this was finding the different light sources and making sure to create the shadows in the right place.
